Setting in, moving on

Hmm, well perhaps we didn't poison ourselves with alcohol as much on our respective hen and stag nights but today is certainly a slower day than usual thanks to Jenny's house warming party last night.

Quite a bit has been going on in the background since the wedding, the main thrust of it being that we have made an offer on a house which has been accepted. We are opting for a new build so that Roh has less DIY to do (that's the theory) and it's also in a nice part of town. House prices here are stupid crazy with increases of 4.5% plus pcm. We don't know how long it will last but between throwing money away on rent and investing in a house we've taken the plunge. Thanks to mum for helping us out again!

Below are some pics, taken 1 week apart. When we offered on the house there was only a basement and a week later there were walls. We're now at glazed stage and then the work on the inside can begin.

Choosing carpet, paint and hardwood flooring was fun. It's a spec house from Sterling (plan library - two storey - Tanika) so the majority of stuff is chosen for you but we had a bit of leeway as they're introducing new colours and didn't have all the swatches. In the past we'd have been able to custom build/decorate but there just isn't the time for that with such high demand. One of the weird things about Canada is that the weather really does govern what happens, so for 6+ months of the year no construction can be carried out - so no roadworks in Winter but LOADS in the summer.

The Rutherford Estate (aka subdivision in Canada) is a bit of a mess, it's been being built on for 2+ years now and it's very dusty. We're luckily in the last corner in our area so we're hoping once the houses near us are done we're good. Move in date is October 12!

And just to confirm that we aren't still knee deep in snow here's proof that the weather is good enough to BBQ. That's Casey overseeing Roh's chef skills, complete with home made Pina Colada from our new blender. Tasha and I had left the boys to build the BBQ while we headed off to a craft fair (thoroughly disappointing). I guess I can't blame Jenny totally for the hangover as we did start quite early :)

Hopefully I will finish my Management Report today (sigh) as next week involves lots of travelling - Vancouver and Calgary - though I do get to spend 2 nights at the Fairmont, which is very nice. Two weeks after that I'm in Winnipeg and Chicago. Am scanning my brain but can't seem to remember knowing anyone who lives in Chicago, SF or NY would be a different story entirely.
