Kate and I were visiting Calgary again - we come as a package now, it keeps us out of trouble and helps with navigation issues in a strange town. Tuesday night we walked round and round downtown until we came across a delightful Italian restaurant called Gnocchi. The food was fantastic and it met Kate's criteria of not being part of a chain. Bruschetta with red peppers was also slightly more original.
I was a bit bothered that my room overlooked a train line but it was quiet during the night. The only problem was my room ambient temperature (my choice) was colder than the thin blankets would allow. I can't help it if I sleep 5+ degrees colder than the Albertans.
Susan and Diane took pity on us on Wednesday night and we headed off to Jubilations dinner theater in Calgary. Who else could combine History (King Richard), Month Python and the Beatles? It was vaguely reminiscent of The Reduced Shakespeare Company's work, in a psychedelic way. Bonkers is the only good way to describe it, bonkers and a hell of a lot of fun with a very talented cast. I will be investigating the Edmonton version, though I'm not too sure it's Roh's thing.
Luckily Kate needed to get to the airport an hour earlier than me, seeing as the heavens had opened and there was a crash on the Deerfoot Trail (Main road between Calgary and Edmonton) we were right to hightail it out of the office early. A minor detour meant we avoided the traffic and I got an earlier flight home. Also a good thing as the 4pm was delayed because of the bad weather.
