I saw these really cute handmade Christmas decorations (here and here) and decided I wanted to make some of my own. I also wanted to spend some time with my girlfriends and their kids coming up to Christmas, as we'd had to cancel T's birthday party due to sickness.
So a party was born. I purchased a ton of green felt to make the trees and then a yard each of lots of different coloured felts to make the baubles and the 3D trees. Felt was farmed out to the lucky invitees and we all set about cutting enough of everything for each of the kids, 13 in all.
First I made a template for the layout, we could only get 10 boxes for the trees, but given there are 6 families involved with kids of varying ages, that didn't seem to be an issue. I also made a shape template for the circles (cut these out onto card).
And then I started cutting and I realised that there were 2 options for cutting the circles. (1) cut strips to the size you want and then cut the circles, or (2) cut the circles next to each other, which is what I did.
That was a great space saver and meant I had room for the remaining 3 boxes and more fun stuff like bows and ribbons and different shaped baubles.
I also got some shiny white felt and made some stars for the tops of the trees.
Now to wait until the 24 November to see what everyone else brings and the chaos of 11 kids making trees. OK, some are too small to make trees but we'll let them play with everything anyway.
