I'm not 100% sure I can blame pregnancy for my asthma problems, it seems that unlike the UK the pollen and dust here actually gets a lot worse in September. I guess it just rains too much in the UK for it to be a problem around now. Living on a building site probably doesn't help either. A week of asthma attacks resulted in a day in hospital having tests run. I think I came out worse than I was when I went in a high dose of salbutomol gave me heart palpitations. Then a blood test for a potential clot on my lungs was positive, but after an x-ray and lung test (not ideal when you're pregnant) I was given the clear. A quiet weekend later and we seemed to be on top of it.
The other thing that's been rather constant throughout pregnancy is I look 'small'. It's all relative, they build these North Americans big! But, as I wasn't keeping up with the averages we were sent for an 'emergency' ultrasound on 11 Sept to check all was well. Given it was booked on 26 Aug, clearly the definition of emergency differs here to the UK. It was slightly stressful waiting all that time. The good news is that at 35 weeks baby is hitting all the averages and was already 6 lbs. (note to self, is that good news? We're heading for at least an 8lber at birth). The not so good news was that baby, who was head down and engaged at 30 weeks, had flipped to breach position.
So, the reason for me updating my blog at 5:30 am is because we're off to the hospital today for a 'version' - that's where I have an epidural and the OB attempts to turn baby right way round. As I'm not allowed to eat for 6 hours before the procedure, I figured breakfast would be a good move. I am pregnant you know! There are essentially 3 potential outcomes:
- Baby turns and we hope remains head down for a natural birth
- Baby doesn't turn and I have a 'c' section at week 39
- Baby decides to be born - hasn't yet happened to the OB!
Watch this space... the bag is packed, just in case ;o)
