I'm often surprised at how babies ever survived. Both our parents, and friends who are only 10 or so years older, got through their pregnancies without a single ultrasound, yet today it's fairly common place. 3D scans are all the rage and in Edmonton you can have a 30 minute scan done at the local mall, for fun, and leave with a video of baby in the womb.
Today I am recovering from my gestational diabetes test. That's where I had to drink 50g of an intense sugar drink, not move for an hour, and then have a blood test. This is to see how well my blood is making insulin and dealing with it. I'm not sure I've ever sat that quietly after any meal and I'm sure walking around would have been more representative of real life, but apparently no, I was to sit in the uncomfortable chair in the waiting room.
Last night I felt a bit sick, and the Tirimasu at Karin's birthday probably didn't help. Still, after some protein and carbs I settled down for a restless night. If Elaine told me once, she told me about 5 times I looked pale today. I felt soooo sick and even an overdose of ginger biscuits hasn't helped. I finally dived into my pregnancy books, to find that some women may feel nauseous, headachy and downright crap after the test. Hmmm. Well, if they do give me the same test as they will a woman of 250lbs, what do they expect?
Hopefully that's the last test I have to do like that. If there's another that involves sugar then I'll be arguing for the Cadbury's Dairy Milk realistic option :)
