I was given a Spa giftcard just before Christmas, and decided it was time to try it out. I selected the 'firm and tone' (or something) option and bravely entered.
I'd always seen Spa's as frequent haunts of rich, bored women with too much to do with their time - stealing away for a weekend retreat with girlfriends. But here they come hand in hand with hairdressing salons. Spa treatments, hair treatments & nail treatments sit side by side. The contraptions they make you sit in for nail treatment are horrendously uncomfortable, but that wasn't why I was there.
I was given a very nice pair of paper panties and sat through an exfoliation before being caked, head to toe, in the most foul smelling mud. It didn't help that I was shivering throughout the whole process. After being wrapped in clingfilm to bake for 20 mintues I was finally herded off to have a steam shower. A slathering of moisturiser and thank you very much.
I'm still debating whether or not I enjoyed myself, or if I'd choose to go back without the gift voucher. I appreciated the gesture and it did mean I got to pamper myself for 2 hours this morning, but I'm still a bit bemused by the whole process. Ask me again when I've been for round 2...
