Ancestory

It's quiet strange how obsessed the Canadians are with... well... not being Canadian. Take, for instance, the conversation I had yesterday.

G: Yo Bella
L: who's Bella
G: It's Italian for Beautiful
L: But I'm not Italian, I'm Scottish

Now you could have knocked me down with a feather. When I speak with my friend there is definitely no Scottish brogue lilting from her lips, nor does she strike me as being Scottish. As far as I was concerend she's Canadian.

Similarly, the amount of folks who love us for our accents is amusing. The comments have receeded (not because I'm getting a Canadian accent, I'll have you know) but we've settled into our group of friends. We're still causing amusement - 'what does manky mean?'. There's a post on youtube about 'man flu'. I had to explain what a Lemsip was to a friend. Some very simple things just require translation.

Equally Kegels threw me off, but apparently that's a pregnant mum thing rather than a Canadian thing :oS
