Sing Us A Song The Piano Man

What a truly fun night, really it was just great. Roh and I headed off to Rexall Place around 7 to catch 'The Piano Man' in action. Having decided on Tuesday that we were going to go it was all a bit last minute, but totally fantastic.

We probably knew about 50% of the songs, but it was still really good. Shame he didn't play Uptown Girl, but it didn't really fit into the set. Billy was a total entertainer, making it very personal. A couple of times Billy gave the crowd options as to what he'd sing, the loudest noise meant that song was chosen. At one point it was so noisy he just played them both :o)

Roh got a special treat too, Billy thanked all his band and then the Road Crew. His way to do this was allow one of the Crew (Chainsaw) to come up on stage and sing a song. A VERY loud rendition of 'Highway To Hell' (Slayer) was the end result. It was crazy good stuff. Imagine being able to say 'Billy Joel was my backup guitarist!'

Only in Edmonton would fans be sitting during a concert. It's bonkers. We stood, we sat, we stood. Finally we kept standing but those in the stadium seats (we were on the floor) mainly sat. The reason? I was told later that apparently it's hard to get up and bob at Rexall. Hmmm. I've seen people do it at other stadiums, why not this one? It's actually quiet an intimate setting so should be more possible, not less.

Anyway, I digress, because we had a fantastic time and bopped our socks off. At the end the encore was great, even if it took the crowd a while to get into the 'cheer/boo' when Billy tried to leave the stage. And yes, it ended in Piano man.

Given we'd also been invited to a Halloween Party at Rogers we trundled off there after, in the SNOW! It was good to pop in and catch up with some of the BioWare folks I'd not seen in a while, as well as meet some new ones. We were the only two not dressed up and there were some crazy costumes. It seems 'anything goes' whereas in the UK (1) Halloween is not such a big thing and (2) we still mainly do witches and warlocks, rather than random dressing up. Still, if you're a goth it seemed to work!

And home to more snow...
