Friday was our playdate at Holly's; the same day that Edmonton Govt decided to clean the streets in her neighbourhood. This involves large buldozers with ice clearing equipment, trucks to cart away the ice and a combine harvester like blower to transfer the ice from the road to the trucks.
So part way through all the mummies had to shift their cars, no mean feat when you have to also juggle 10 babies ranging from 0 - 5. Add the following to the mix: Someone always has to be in the house with the babies but the buldozers are approaching, it's nap time for Morgandy, Diana cries when her mum isn't around, Torin just wants to be played with, Alana arrives with Zoe and Pia in the middle of it all, the boys are playing Star Wars, it's in the "minus very cold degrees" outside... What didn't help was that Holly's car (people carrier) got stuck in the snow behind her garage. I can't quite describe the chaos that ensued! Eventually a kind neighbour gave me and Alana a hand and we got it out. 3 hours later a repeat of the same scenario as she had to leave to get the kids from school :)
Not so funny was the end of the lane was blocked with a 3ft wall of cracked ice, still to be hoovered away. Again, thanks to the kind man in his truck who drove over it and levelled it so us mummies could escape... at least streets are only cleaned in this manner once a year!
