Tasha and I had been in Regina for some training and, after a brief spin around Regina to see the sights (Legislature) we arrived at the airport at 4:15. A good 2.45 hours before my flight.
It's not like any airport in the UK, it took 15 minutes to check in, buy a postcard for Karen and then get through security. All Regina airport has inside is a cafe, so we set ourselves up and chatted until Tasha's flight left. At which point my flight was delayed for 2 hours.
Imagine if you will a stack of pennies - probably 20 in total - and the aim of the participants was to guess if the next coin will be a Heads or a Tails. Cost to guess - 25c. And thus I was led astray into a life of gambling by men old enough to be my dad. In fact my dad probably would have really enjoyed the game. It passed lots of time. Poor Wayne ended up losing his 'life on the Parish', I broke even and Joe and Mike were quids (dollars) in.
The flight eventually took off, 3 hours late (sigh). The original airplane had been damaged in turbulance, so they flew a new one in but the potential crew walked out. Great! Apparently there were no hotels in Regina (now I know how Mary and Joseph felt) but there was no need for a stable as we were rescued by the rest of the Air Canada Team and made it finally to Toronto at 3am. I was a bit of a wreck for the Tuesday but at least I got there.
Note to self: never travel without a stack of pennies :)
